The old fashioned looking sentimental Mettlachs may never recover as they overlap stylistically with Hummels which are considerd a bad investment with a declining collector base. Those designed by famous designers such as Riemerschmid and Hohlwein should always hold some appeal. Art nouveau or jugendstil style Mettlachs should vary with the popularity of these styles. Some Mettlach regimental steins with special inscriptions or rare units will vary with interest in the imperial german army pre 1914.
