Brian, I don't think Stewart meant it as a snobbish reply. He was just trying to state some facts. I did a survey a few years ago and about 30% of SCI members have an interest in both old and new stein. Only about 20% of that number, however, have an interest in only new steins. I include both in my collections. I do prefer the older from the standpoint that there is a greater interest in them from an historic and artistic standpoint. They are more fun to research and write articles. There are a lot of Bud collectors out there, but there are also a lot of bud steins. With a few exceptions, like Bud Man and members only, they generally sell for less in the aftermarket. Schultz and Dooley has a club and some of their early first editions hold their value. I am not collecting them anymore as they have expanded beyond the TV characters and now have are made in China. Mettlach tried issuing new steins and they even sell for less in the aftermarket. Of course, some of the old Mettlach's are selling for less now too. The Beer Stein Library does have some articles and catalogs on new steins. One is on the Gerz Limität series, but I don't think that is the stein you describe. Absent collectors writing articles or starting web sites about new steins, eBay is about your only source to find values. There are plenty of sources that sell bud steins. Scott just started a web site for Oktoberfest steins (there is also a German site). Sometimes these new steins have a greater following in Germany, such as Gerz Limität and Oktoberfest. I recently saw a 1978 Oktoberfest sell for $560 in Germany. They don't bring that much in the States. You might try looking at the German eBay. It is a long reply not to get what you are looking for, but don't give up. It will just take time to find the answer. Ron
