I've never heard that the larger steins were never made to drink from--can you ellaborate? One would think that the handle would be sufficient for the steins weight as well as the beer in it, and some drunk bavarian slamming it down on the table! I can understand age and perhaps a hidden flaw in the stoneware, but still you would think it would hold up. I used to collect glass and you don't put it in the dishwasher, but lukewarm water shouldn't have an effect one would think?
