In order to help collectors asking about the value of their steins, I attach an answer I recently gave against an enquiry. I hope it is helpful and I would welcome any additions. "I have tried to avoid giving a valuation up until now, because these things do not have an international price tag. Markets per country do vary, and I have to say that at whatever price you purchased it, is the price that it is worth. Original Jugendstil's with an attributed proven designer such as Karl Görig or Richard Riemerschmid are worth perhaps $500.00. Those with no attribution are worth a lot less; how much by, I have no idea. It is what the market will stand at the time. I buy what I like the look of, or a specific interest at the time. Therefore there is no theme to my collection. I always bid low and if I get it, it's a good day. If not, then there is always another deal! Sorry I can't give you a valuation, I just don't know. Cheers Chris PS The Beer Stein Library gives valuations, but even on a good day they are only guides. I have seen deals go down that are plus or minus three times the quoted price. Your stein might be the last one in a series that a serious collector needs - then the sky is the limit!"
