Hi David, My understanding is, turnips - or specifically radishes, were snack food to have with your beer at the hofbrau way back in the day (that's what I was told anyway). Since it was common to have a radish/turnip with your beer, the theme is on many beer steins, since they go well together. The most common is on many Munich Child theme steins (usually holding them in one hand).
