Dümler & Breiden stein No. 108, which was added to the online D&B catalog earlier today, depicts three German students in period dress from 1488, 1688 and 1888 (see http://www.beerstein.net/images/hold/dab-0108.jpg and http://www.beerstein.net/images/hold/dab-0108a.jpg The text on the stein reads: “Von der Hand bis zu dem Munde schallt mir eine Eisenbahn u. mit jeder Viertelstunde kommt ein Zug mit Bairisch an.” (From hand to mouth a train resounds and every quarter hour another train with Bavarians arrives.) If there's anyone out there who can explain the meaning of the text and how it relates to the three student images, I'd love to hear from you.
