I don't think you need to choose your words more carefully. "John" seemed almost insulted at your comment and catagorized you as a new collector. It's almost as if he owned the stein himself. Be it a new collector or a master steinologist, the idea here is fun and interest, not putting people down because you don't agree with an opinion.
