I can't tell you much about the stein, but the words seem to be the title ( Nur einmal blüht im Jahr der Mai ) of a once popular song by Wilhelm Heiser (1816-1897). I have a stein with those words on one side panel, and the words "nur einmal im Leben die Liebe" on the other side panel. Together they form the refrain of the song. My loose translation: "(Flowers) bloom once a year in May, love once in a lifetime."
