I recently purchased an old beer stein that I really like very much (if you're curious, see eBay item #110159964739). Anyway, I didn't pay very much for this stein so I wouldn't be inclined to spend a great deal on the repair it needs. The problem is this. The lid is securely attached to the handle via the pewter ring that wraps completely around the handle. That ring however has been stretched out of shape and for that reason the lid wobbles somewhat. Unless I'm mistaken, all I need to do to restore the lid to an acceptable degree of functionality is "squeeze" it so it's tight around the handle again. Never having tried this type of thing before, I'm reluctant to try it on the stein that I have become so fond of. Do any of the experts here have any experience with this type of repair? Can anyone offer any suggestions as to an alternative repair method? Thanks very much for any help anyone may be able to provide.
