I have a modern Thewalt stein (actually two - one is monochrome the other color) that is a reproduction of an earlier stein. The number on the side is 243. I have researched a lot about the history that this interesting design depicts; but, how could I find out more about the original stein, and what Thewalt had to say about it when it was first made? The original would have been made shortly after 1902.
