There really is no right or wrong way to collect (this really applies to anything, not just steins). I have always collected a wide variety of beer steins (when I first started, it was dictated more by price), but as time went on, if I liked it and I could afford it, I would buy it. I've been collecting for 20 years now. There really are some good comments in this post/series on collecting. I have both antique and modern steins in my collection (I like those budweiser character steins), so it is also possible to collect both. There is no right or wrong, only what you like and can afford. Good luck to all, and happy stein hunting!! John S.
