Did anyone see the Antiques Road Show tonight (10/29/07)? They talked about several steins. I missed the majority of what the guy said about the first stein - he said it was a Westerwald stein from the 1600's and appraised it at over $3000 - I only got a brief glimpse of the lid it seemed to be a circa 1900 lid. Anyone else see it? The other stuff was a mix of bad and good information. He said the etched Mettlach was a cameo technique, the PUG stein was a character stein, etc. He did show a stein with "Mettlach" printed on the bottom and correctly identified it as fake. Makes you realize though that even the "expert opinions" on the Antique Road Show need to be taken with a grain of salt.
