They showed this episode again last night (11/01/07), and I happened to be watching this time. The guy wasn't a stein expert (a PUG Mettlach is now a character stein? I think not!), I think he shuffled through a few books before going on the air for his quick stein 'education'. It was interesting to see the modern porcelain stein with the word Mettlach on the bottom of it (fake). I had never seen a fake Mettlach mark before (only an extreme amature would have mistaken that stein for a Mettlach). It was the modern tapered porcelain stein with the bump in the handle). With the descriptions of a couple of the antique steins way off the mark, it makes you wonder how often Antiques Roadshow is right/wrong with their descriptions and estimates on that show. It's still an interesting show though (and I'll still watch :-) John
