Hello Stewart, Beauty is in the eye of the beholder (not just with steins, but anything). These modern Mettlach steins you spoke of are geniune (and nice), and some people do collect them. They certainly are more affordable than the antique steins Mettlach produced 100+ years ago. I disagree with one other statement the gentleman on Antiques Roadshow made about the steins he had displayed. He had a tall 16"-17" stein on the show, probably 2L, and he told the viewers they should not collect the large steins. I know there are collectors who like and enjoy the larger steins (I am one of them). I thought it was pretty irresponsible for him to make a statement like that. I forgot to mention that in my earlier post. Your observation about modern Mettlachs is correct - they are nice and people do collect them. John
