Have you read the article in the latest Prosit about the souvenir steins for the American market made by Thewalt? Yours seems a little different but the same general type and period. The Soldiers' Home in Dayton (for disabled Civil War veterans) must have been quite a tourist attraction, and JJ Keyes was a souvenir merchant at Dayton OHIO (you can find his postcards on ebay for go-withs).
