We have two steins from my wife's family (she is of German descent) of which we know nothing. We are not interested in selling them. We just want to know more about them, in terms of origin, time frame, usage (I know, drinking beer) and value (for insurance purposes). The first, which I'll call "The Lovers" is 5 7/8" tall with a base diameter of 3 3/4". The base is stamped "Made in Germany" and hand numbered "1496". The right side is incised "0.5l". The second, I call "Prosit". When you look at the photos, you'll know why. Height is 6", base diameter is 3 5/8". Base is incised with the image of a castle, "Mettlach", "VB", "Geschuzt", "2100", "97". "25", and "II". Right side is incised with "3/10 L". Artwork is signed "A (or possibly 'H') Schlitt". Photos are here: http://s245.photobucket.com/albums/gg71/BobK_BeerSteins/ Many thanks in advance for your help. Best, Bob K
