Some straps are too loose to simply use a drop of super glue to hold it in place. I have used JB weld (as it is grey when mixed and matches the pewter closely)and take a toothpick and push some under the bottom of the strap out of sight--it won't move. Be sure to wipe off the excess with a cotton swab and razor blade before it hardens, especially if you use the 5 minute stuff. I personally don't think the value is hurt--it was a stein that was used!
