Will the polishing detract or reduce the value as most collectors (including myself) like the old dark patina? Will the polishing remove the oxidation but the pewter will be dark still? I have polished one but it was a thin somewhat newer stein and lid and it did lighten it quite a bit--I did this only to lessen some dings and ripples on the lid.
