I too sent him protestations that his was a laughable post because it was obviously a more modern stein of modest value. He replied: "if you find this stein tell me where you found it. Most repos come from the haufs brau in germany. Stein go way back before germany. The lid on the stein came from a law the required all drinking vessels to have a lid because of the black death and the plauge of flies. Most of the steins you have today are ceramic or glass. The salt glazed steins came from the mines in westerwald because of the color which was only blue or orange. That is the 1400's!" To which I replied (in part), "Well, there you go. This stein may be blue, but it is not salt glazed." I said again the the stein collecting world is (unfortunately) not large and his posted item is well-known, and he needs to desist from these ludicrous claims. Ah, well.
