Höhr-Grenzhausen and its surroundings, where Gerz and so many other classic German stein makers were located, was in the French occupied zone from 1945 to 1949. That gives you a pretty good date for the second stein, although the stein companies wouldn't necessarily have started using the designation right away, nor stopped immediately with the political reorganizations.
