Mettlach sometimes offered a variety of lids with their steins, pewter with ceramic insert, plain pewter and ornamental pewter. The first was normally the lowest price and the last was the highest price. In the 1905 catalog, the first lid was 90 Pfg. and the last was 1 Mrk. 10 Pfg. Today, collectors normally prefer the ceramic insert lids. Accordingly, your stein would be worth slightly less than the going rate of a ceramic insert lid. Ron
