Most of the decorations of this sort are based on or inspired by the paintings of the academic, genre artist Franz von Defregger. He painted many scenes featuring Austrians and Bavarians of the 19th century in their traditional costumes and environment. The actual painter of the stein is probably an anonymous craftsman.
