I looked to see what the winning bidder had bought lately. It included another old pewter stein for $4850 (no picture left on that one). The one you pointed out is not only plain; but, it's beat up and repaired. But, it does seem to date back to the Revolutionary period so it looks like that's enough for big bucks. Gosh.
