Paul gave you a good reply, I'll try to add to it. The definition of a stein is a handled drinking vessel, intended for beer, which has a cover, often hinged. Because steins were often part of a serving set, with a pouring piece (i.e., not for drinking per se) bearing the same decor and often lidded, many stein collectors consider them to be steins as well. The fact that your pitcher does not currently have a lid is overcome by the fact that it was intended to have a lid, and probably did at one time. So collectors who follow this thinking would call your piece a lidless master stein, or a lidless serving stein.
