The discussion of a Westerwald pitcher in the last thread reminds me of a question that came up at my last local stein collector's meeting. Which in turn brings up the point that a lot of stein collectors, especially of classic steins, are not real beer drinkers. Many don't even drink beer out of their steins. When I order a pizza in a restaurant, I order a pitcher of draft beer. They usually give me a glass or two to use as well. The pitchers these days are plastic, sometimes with an ice holder in the center. They are 60 or 64 ounces, which is roughly 2 litres. That's what those master steins/pitchers are all about! Not wine or milk or something, just normal, real draft beer drinking! But classier than plastic. ps. Yes I drink beer out of my Mettlach!
