Stewart, There is a reason most collectors don't drink out of their antique beer steins, and it has nothing to do with their value. At SCI conventions collectors trade stories about their stein hunting adventures. One collector told about a tip he got that an elderly gentleman in a nursing home had a Mettlach stein he probably could get a good deal on. When he arrived at the gentleman's room he didn't have to open the lid of the stein to realize what it had been used for. The collector passed on the stein. Do you know where your steins have been and more importantly what they have had in them? Ron
