I would respectfully disagree with you on this point. Aside from the hygenic issue, which could be resolved through a good washing, most "classic" steins don't perform a utilitarian function. Regardless of the value, why run the risk of damaging an irreplaceable antique through everday use. I would much rather imbibe a brew from a safe distance, and with a replaceable commodity (cheap glass) than an object d'art.
