Chris, While I did not get the story first hand and I can't verify it as the collector is no longer with us, I believe it is a true story. My wife worked with the elderly and I can easily see something like this happening in a nursing home. As to someone cleaning out the stein and having a real bargain, I doubt that you could get the smell out of the stoneware after several years of abuse. Ron
