That's a particularly nice one! All these boots seem clearly rider's boots; either cavalry or knights. I have traced at least one connection to Falstaff; but, which came first - Falstaff or the boot? Germans have been crazy about Shakespeare since the 18th century, and especially in the 19th century. I have just googled through a thousand or so illustrations of Falstaff without one showing him drinking from a boot. But a few auction pages turned up Mettlach 983(1526) with the merry knight toasting with one. He wears a similar pair and all three have brewers' stars for spurs!
