An article titled "The Boot as Drinking Vessel" by Uwe Ch. Finke, curator of the Rastal Collection of Historic Drinking Vessels in Höhr-Grenzhausen, appeared in the March 1989 issue of Prosit. It includes a photo of a glass boot circa 1700. It states that reports of drinking vessels in the shape of boots go back to the 16th century.
