Hi, The inscription says: "Gmoa Zipfelhaub'n" and below "Vogelzucht- und Spar-Verein". "Gmoa" is Bavarian for "gemein[e]", which is almost impossible to translate in this context. The best try is "Common", but that doesn't really hit the point. "Gmoa" expresses something like "Well, so we're the Zipfelhaub'n, we're funny people and we don't care what you might think of us". "Zipfelhauben" (the missing 'e' is also Bavarian slang) are those pointed caps (it's plural) usually worn by dwarfs, but also by the Bavarian "Seppel", a character from the German "Kasperletheater", a Punch-and-Judy-show. The cap is a kind of symbol for a funny, but not very clever jester. The headline is the name of the association the stein was made for. Below is: "Association for breeding birds and savings". Strange club indeed, but I suspect that even the members didn't take it too serious. Best Marc
