Congratulations upon starting a stein collection! The type of stein you have bought does not get much discussion here but it is a perfectly good German stein to start with. Gerz was a fine old manufacturer for many years. You can be confident that it was actually made in Germany because that is incised into the pottery (don't trust paper labels). The D.B.G.M. is a sort of lid patent and tells you that the stein was made 1951 or later (earlier ones say D.R.G.M.). The 1805 is the design number but I don't know if a list for Gerz is online or in a book. There is another site that may be building one. The decoration of 19th century Bavarians and alpine flowers are favorites for traditional steins. Handgemalt, or handpainted, seems to mean that someone colored the relief by hand. The stein is not valuable as many similar were made, this is probably from the 1960's to 1980's. However, as your first stein you should give it pride of place with a label! And don't forget to drink beer out of it!
