Rohrbach, Based on the years you state, your stein would be 125 years old and date from 1883. While Gerz was founded in 1862, West Germany only dates from 1949 to 1990. I would guess your stein is only about 50 years old. Your stein is considered a relief stein, which is the common form used for everyday or souvenir type steins that are mass produced. Gerz went bankrupt in 1999, but the name, logo and some molds were acquired by Domex and they still produce steins using that name and logo. "Froh beim Bier, das lieben wir" translates to either "happy with beer, that is what we love" or "happiness through beer, that is what I cheer." Both translations appear in 1001 Beer Stein Translations, which can be found in the Library section of this site. Ron
