I just returned from a trip to St Augustine, where I visited the Lightner Museum: (www.lightnermuseum.org/main_lightner.html) This Lightner, a 19th century development baron, filled up his unique hotel with a very miscellaneous collection and made it a museum. Some items are better labeled than others. There is a small room with about 36 beersteins. 5 are 18th century and dated, but, not really described. About thirty are classic steins, among which I recognized a few Mettlachs but there were no labels at all. One was the Mettlach boot, or shoe, mentioned in an earlier thread. Does any stein expert live around there, or plan to visit? Maybe they would accept some help properly labeling the steins.
