Dara, For some reason our software seems to sometimes have trouble picking up all of the url to make it a link. Readers can copy the entire link (be sure to start copying at the non-link side) and paste it in the url address section to view the photos. The cat is a symbol of a hangover while the goat (bock in German) is the symbol for spring beer. The Library section has an article on animal symbolism found on beer steins. There are also articles on glass steins. Your object is a beer stein. Your pictures were not clear enough to read the inscriptions. The lid and thumblift are pewter with a copper insert on the lid. The glass is cut glass. If you can post a clearer photo of the inscription we might be able to translate it for you. Ron
