John, Adding to Ron Heilgenstein, who wrote the book on regimentals, the stein is badly damaged and poorly repaired too. There is an article in the Links section, Regimentals - Old or New?, that may help you in the future. This serpentine type thumblift is usually an indication that it is a modern reproduction. Also, if the pewter is the same shade of dark inside and outside, it is an indication that it has been chemically aged. In normal oxidation, only the outside is exposed, and thus it will be darker and the inside will be lighter and shinier. Most of the regimentals you see in "antique" stores and eBay are reproductions, so you would be wise to be cautious. Please feel free to ask questions about eBay listings on this site. Some of us try to alert the listers, but some just don't care. And it doesn't seem to do any good to complain to eBay. They have shut us off from contacting bidders and we can't even see if there is a possible shill bidding either. Ron
