Onkel Fritz, There was more concern about the lead when the entire stein was pewter. Thus, those steins should be marked, usually you will see an angel with either a sword and balance or a palm frond and trumpet. Rastal made a pewter stein for the 1978 SCI convention and the inside is marked with the angel, indicating it is lead free. Other marks are KL for klar and lauter (clear and pure). If the lid is entirely pewter, it might be marked if it is a heavy lid (some of the Rastal Oktoberfest steins will have lids that are marked, but some may not be marked. If the lid has a ceramic insert, you probably won't find a mark indicating the quality of the pewter. Ron
