Hi Ron and Walt, Thanks for your posts
Yes, you are correct Walt, there is no lithophane in these steins.
I have found another lithophane stein with similar but not identical decoration.
Again, it's well documented in Europe this decoration pattern Meissen copied from the Chinese in the mid 18th century and called it "immortelle".
Subsequently, it has been copied by numerous companies and is still being made today by Royal Coppenhagen and known as "blue-fluted". I have yet to find an example of Chinese export that pre-dates the Meissen.
Since the decoration can't be solely used to determine the age, I'm hoping someone here may be able to date these by the attributes of a flat unglazed base with circumfrential ridges, kiln grit embedded at the edge of the base, and the style of the pewter mount.
While I do know a little about antique ceramics, I know less about antique steins and appreciate your help. Cheers, Michael
