Ron's reply is technically correct but I don't think that the spin is right. As someone who is not a stein collector, you may be surprised to learn that many serious collectors do not consider steins to be old unless they are pre-WWII, preferably pre-WWI. But more modern steins are still suitable for heirlooms, it just will be a few more generations before the collectors get interested. Your stein is part of a long tradition, was genuinely made in Germany (how much longer will they be making steins at all there?) by an old and reputable company. Take care of it and remember the personal association with your grandfather. That's what counts.
