Hi Chris, I was not able to locate this mark either, but I did notice in the photos that the pewter shank ends right at the top of the handle, which is strange as the only other steins I've seen like that were made in Japan (this stein is German made, but I think the shank may be repaired to fit like that)? However, the handle is unusually thick at the top as well, so maybe it is the original pewter fitting? I wonder if anyone else has seen the pewter shank end like this on top of an old German stein? (without going around the handle). John S.
