I'd like to add one thing to correct my previous statement about never seeing a regimental stein where the strap didn't go completely around the handle. There is one exception that I know of, the so called "hinge in the handle" type stein, D.R.G.M. No. 263664. There is no strap on that style stein, which the Germans sometimes call a "Thuringian Reservistenkrug Henkel".
