Ron, We had a discussion of these in 2002. Jody Wyse wrote an article on them, but I can't put my finger on it. Basically, they could be used for any liquid, but I doubt they used it for beer as there are pitchers or pouring steins for that. These were used mostly for festive occasions. Wine, egg nog, wassail, etc. would be the ideal contents for this punch bowl. Sometimes they came with a ceramic ladle, but those would be easy to break and are rare to find. A new set, check out some retail outlets that sell beer steins, would cost more than the ones that sold on eBay. Ron
