The term "Regensburg" to identify these steins was, I am told, the work of Ron Fox. Now, the Regensburg factory was founded in 1874, but in 1865, J.A. Knodgen was offering them in one of his catalogs. However, I.H. Krebs was turning them out even earlier in the 1840-50. I don't know of an earlier manufacturer. So, why don't we call them "Krebs steins." Just an idea.
