I'm just testing a continuation of Walt's note: Alt + 132 is ä, 142 is Ä, 148 is ö, 153 is Ö, 129 is ü, 154 is Ü and 225 is ß. This certainly works with Word, hopefully here. Holding down Alt and using the numeric pad is crucial.
