"Relief etched" seems to be an American term indicating the reverse of the mis-named "etched" process, which did not involve etching at all, but sort of looks like it did. The German term, fadenrelief, meaning "threaded relief", is presumably more historically correct. But in the US, the terms are used interchangeably.
