Reproductions are selling for unreasonably high prices on Ebay is nothing new - it's been going on since Ebay first appeared on the scene. The only observation I can make is the same as P.T. Barnum made many years ago - "there's a sucker born every minute." The best advice I can give anyone is educate yourself first - buy later!
