This stein commemorates one of the classical gatherings of friends
and family to have a Schoppen (small stein 1/3 or 1/4 L) of beer or
wine at twilight or dusk (it looks like 6:00 PM on this clock, but
could be midnight on a clock with a single hand for the hour) and is
the counterpart of Frühschoppen (early stein) which could be as early
as 6:00 AM or noon if we read the clock at appropriate intervals or ambiguously.
This late 1800's, 1 L., salt-glazed, stoneware stein would not be an
appropriate size for these occasions, but "Oh well,
it's 5:00 O'clock somewhere!".
