~ Das Geld ist futsch, die Tasche leer ~

The story of the innkeeper's life is presented on this Villeroy & Boch (probable Mettlach) PUG (printed under glaze) stein with the plaque mark, mold number 1526, decor number 592 and dated 1885. There are very many "Frau Wirthin" verses/jokes in German, sort of like the "farmer's daughter" jokes in English.

Das Geld ist futsch, die Tasche leer,
Frau Wirthin habt Geduld.
Bis wieder einst ich komme her,
bleib ich in eurer Schuld.
The money is gone, the purse is empty,
(and) the lady innkeeper has patience.
Until I come here once again.
I remain in your debt.
