~ Der Liebe nicht jedes gelingt ~

The verse is self-explanatory and relates to Homer's Odyssey wherein Odysseus is hosted by King Alkinoos during his 10-year journey thru the Mediterranean. The blue/gray, salt-glazed stein was probably made by Hanke, designed by Julius Diez and marked "2388 13", ca. early 1900's.

Der Liebe nicht jedes gelingt,
der Durst aber alles bezwingt.
Love does not always succeed,
but thirst overcomes all.
