~ Der Schnaps und Not, zum Teufel jagd ~

The message here is that brandy (strong drink) and need are the devil's work and Gambrinus with his beer is the friend of the common man. The large relief stein is marked "902 Germany 8", ca. 1900.

Der Schnaps und Not,
zum Teufel jagd
und Frohsinn giebt und Kraft,
hoch dir Grambrinus, Völkerfreund
und deinem Gerstensaft.
Schnaps (brandy) and need,
the devil seeks
and gives cheerfulness and strength,
long live Gambrinus, the people's friend
and his barley juice (beer).
